Continental Tyres (or Conti as they are colloquially known) are renowned for producing excellent high-performance tyres. The German-engineered tyres are best known for meticulous attention to quality and safety, making it a leading global tyre brand.
The General Tyre and Rubber Company South Africa (which would later become Continental) - was established in 1947 by the Williams Hunt Group, South Africa, and General Tyres International in Akron, Ohio.
The first manufacturing facility was built in Port Elizabeth in 1948, and by the end of 1950, tyres, tubes and repair materials were being sold in South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Namibia.
In 1978 a deal was struck with the German company Continental AG, giving General Tyre South Africa access to the latest European tyre technology and the Continental brand name. Not only does the Company have the only holographic tyre-inspection facility in the southern hemisphere but Continental tyres are approved as original equipment on many leading South African-manufactured high-performance saloons and sports hatchbacks -manufactured by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Opel, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Ford.
Some popular Continental tyre models include the Conti Eco Contact series, Conti Premium Contact series and the Conti Sport Contact series.
